The Doorman
THE DOORMAN (2022) is a short comedy about the desire for companionship in New York City and the lengths one might go to in order to seek it. The film follows Austin Beck, a 20-something new to NYC. Austin moves into a building occupied by a tight-knit but closed-off cast of characters. When Austin has trouble breaking into their circle through friendliness alone, he turns to alternative solutions: pretending to be the building’s doorman so that his fellow occupants will finally talk to him. What ensues is a comedy of errors as Austin navigates a series of interactions with suspicious residents, culminating in an apartment party where the residents finally call him on his ruse.
